Default What I want to do with root now! sorry.

alright I've got JF's RC30, done a few minor tweaks, but Oh no, I am not done yet.

    new goals

    A. I want to remove the stock ringtones. I haven't used a ringer in approximately 6 years, and if for some reason I did decide I wanted to use one, there's always mp3's

    B. Delete the non GTalk IM clients. I've looked at the im files, there are multiple ones, besides the ones labeled gtalk, and I don't know which each does, and if they run completely independant of each other or not.

    C. Getting ADB running I suspect, so I can use it and terminal Emulator. That way I can install the browser autorotate, I'll search this one.

    D. Themese, yeah they are all over and information is everywhere I just have to look into it, not my top priority.

any help with a. and b. would be appreciated.

for a. I've found some stuff here unfortunately it's not working for meand I think it has to do with making the directory writeable. there was also I few mentions of deleting individual ringtones in the autorotate browser thread at xda. But I wouldn't mind doing it in one command.

and yes this is pt. 2 of my sorry another root thread post...

Sorry, I just HAVE to interrupt to ask.... your phone hasnt rang in 6 years? Vibrate only, or is there something I'm missing? (I hope this answer doesn't make me feel stoopid!)

vibrate only... I really am not a fan of ringtones. I guess there was a couple of days when I first got the G1 that I kept changing settings around, but instead of a ring I kept it on silent once i figured that out.

I was trying to do the history of my phones g1, samsung, two horrible motorolas, a couple of nokias. i think that's about six years considering the samsung and the second nokia had around a two year or so shelf life.

regarding B: i'm just nervous about removing stock apps, and a future update needing/wanting said apps, and crashing my sh-t.

I think if you go back to rc29, like we did to root, it restores that stuff... maybe?

i would imagine it does, but...i don't want to go through all that again. i'd *love* to delete some things, but what if cupcake comes out and it won't run properly without the camera app? or yahoo messenger?

Every update includes all the apps that are preinstalled. If I remove something and run an update on my phone I get everything I removed back.

well just for the better let it happen of it all... I went ahead and deleted the camera.apk and camera.odex even though jdwme told me after that the pictures wouldn't save correctly and he was right.

So then I dropped that update.zip file on my sd and home/power started it hit alt L and alt S and when it was done, I had the camera back, the other email programs I deleted and amazon mp3 store. it took all of five minutes. So rest assured if you screw things up now that you have root it's easy to fix.

Now I probably have to redo the caches, and delete those apps. But you know what I feel lot better knowing how easy it is to put everything back in its right place.

he was where I was at last night when you said I should just go ahead and do it. and I said I was chicken. Tonite I was like screw it, lets just mess it up and see how hard it is to fix.

did you every ask bratag about the link to the picture folder, because I don't know if you noticed but after I reinstalled the update, the pictures I had taken without the ability to get to pictures were there. in the right spot.
