I'm pretty sure the included Google Maps application has live traffic info, just like the web version.

I see you haven't used Google maps yet.

Download it and use it. It has the latest traffic information on freeways and highways.

The G1 User Manuel page 76 states:

"If available in your area, real-time traffic conditions are displayed over highway as color-coded lines. Each color represents how fast the traffic is moving:

    • Green >50 MPH
    • Yellow 25-50 MPH
    • Red < 25 MPH
    "

Bah, and I was thinking about writing an app that would let people's GPS give it an estimated travel time based on the speed, and alter the route based on that. I guess google already did that

Some people have already mentioned this and we all agree that with so much interest some developers are sure to be working on apps for this.

when google maps first came out, it wasn't long before they implemented this feature... it does an admirable job at that, typically 10 +/- minutes for me... although living in the surrouding los angeles area, there is almost no way to avoid traffic anyway

Google maps does an OK job with their live traffic overlay on their maps, but it would be nice if someone wrote an app that pulled in live traffic cam images that various states use. It's the info from these images which is used by google and others to show live traffic speeds.

It would be nice to have an app that showed pinpoints on the map wherever there's a cam, click on it and you get the latest image taken by the camera (most of these cameras are refreshed every 15 seconds)

Here's an example of a traffic website for those who are not familiar with it: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/tmc/traff...meras_map.html

I would LOVE to have this feature for free!

fingers crossed that they dont find a way to charge for traffic updates.

when i had my TOM TOM they charged a fee to have this kind of updates, and it had to connect to my phones blue tooth and call out for the services.

never really wanted to waste my money/minutes to try it out.
