i tried editing some stuff .. but the filesize got bigger .. and it wudn't let me flash it to my phone .. it wud end up with a stuck tmobile G1 boot screen.. im going to try more tonight also if i edit icons in the apps folder.. would i need to resign the app along with the file?

you will need to resign everything that you edit. apk's, and the update zips. Sometimes you can get by without but when it comes down to the one that you have to resign, you will end up with exactly what you got A non-booting G1.
