    Default Settings!

The Emulator's settings doen't show anything about changing colors on the home screen or anything... just brightness and screen Timeout... kind of scares me. That is bad if that's all there is under display settings....

i don't think the emulator is a full blown replica of the os. i guarantee there will be tons of modding apps for themes etc. once the phone is released.

i think he means as far as themes. on my tytn, winmo phone, there are tons of programs to change color schemes on your phone. different fonts, menu colors etc. everyone has different tastes. me, i like black with white fonts. someone else might like blue menu's with yellow fonts.

If you are talking about wallpaper, don't worry, it is very easy to change.
    From user guide:
    Customize Home screen wallpaper
Wallpaper your Home screen with pictures you have stored on your SD card, or select a picture from
the Wallpaper gallery that comes preinstalled on your phone:

    1
From the Home screen, press MENU and select Wallpaper. Alternatively, you can touch & hold
the Home screen to open the

    Add to Home menu.
    2

Select Wallpaper, then select either Pictures or Wallpaper gallery.
    3

    If you select Wallpaper gallery,
    then scroll through the gallery.
    • Touch a thumbnail to highlight it and view a larger version.
    • When you’ve decided on a wallpaper, make sure it’s highlighted, then select
    Set wallpaper.

If you read the manual, you are right, there are only 2 options in the display settings:
    Display settings
    • Brightness - Select to open the brightness control, then slide your finger
along the brightness bar to set the level. In sunlight, increase the level.
    • Screen timeout - Select to decide how long your phone must be inactive
before the screen turns off. Select

Never timeout if you wish, but
    battery life will decrease.

If you are talking about themes then so far there are no theme settings yet. I assume that will be third party or added later if there is demand. In the sdk at least, the buttons and textures are all png files and the text color settings are all xml files so third parties should be able to make theme packs. I think the iPhone also doesn't have any theme option.

We should receive much more answers on our questions once G1 gets out and arrives to our mailboxes ... I cannot think of G1 not being able to have customized themes icons and colors being 1st Android cell-phone.

Just want to say don't get your hopes up on the themes since it isn't in the manual or sdk. Most likely will be third party like for the iPhone. I don't think not having themes is really a deal breaker as long as you can customize the wallpaper and have whatever icons and widgets you want on the home screen. It think the reason for the omission is because they want more uniformity between the OS and apps, probably the same reason why the iPhone doesn't come with themes.

true.. i do love the black with white font and black phone. but i like to mix it up every one in a while. or maybe to go better with my wallpaper. just to make it look more sharp. but we will see! it is what it is all about!
