Self made ringtones

I've had a Blackberry pearl, and previously a Nokia 5300... both let me put music on my memory card and use it as ringtones...

what i've done is use a program to cut the clips down to a certain part of the song i like (usually about 20-30 seconds) and therefore create my ringtone...

anyone know if the G1 will allow this?

yes the G1 allows you to set mp3 as ringtones and even personalized ringtones per contact

I read recently that ringtones support both standard phonic formats as well as mp3 - So best guess is, yes.

What app did you use for mp3 editing previously? Was it pretty lite? Free?

it was called audacity... or something.. i'm running mac osx tiger.

there is a way to do it for free in itunes 8. go to cnet.com and search since i dont have time to explain why

I still miss my old black brick Nokia 5100 (i think it was) series - In high school I'd walk around tossing that piece in the air... never broke.. went in the pool at least a few times.. never died. Finally one day I had it in my sweatshirt pocket, went to use the restroom and when I lifted the shirt, there it went.. Worst day of my life..

Google NCH software & download the wave pad sound editor. Its free & it has all kind of great functions for editing all music formats. I have been using it for years & its awesome. Good luck.
