just root it

who knows if google will ever make apps2sd an option so just root
I've recently bought the G1 and entered the Android community, and so far I love it. My only dislike is that there is no way to run any apps from the SD card. Rooting seems to be the only way to get around this.
I've read numerous guides on how to root my G1, but it just seems to confusing. Is it worth it for me to take the risk and root my phone? Will there ever be an update to where G1 users could run apps from SD cards? If there will eventually be an update, should I just wait?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Oh, one more question. I know that I have to downgrade to RC29 if I have RC30 or higher, but what do I do if my Build Number is CRC1?

I asked a similar question if I should root my replacement G1 before selling it. Majority of the people said I should. So I will.
