    Default Rooting Attempt... Fail?

    Hey All,

I've been perusing your forums for a while and decided to attempt to root my HTC Dream (with Rogers). Spent a good chunk of time researching and then a better chunk of time trying to get things to work. Every time I was able to simply restore my phone back to factory settings and try again.

Now, after trying running through the CMD prompts I can't get into recovery mode, rather the phone hangs at the Rogers logo. I CAN, however, get into fast boot mode, where it tries to look for the DREAIMG files, which aren't on the SD card as they weren't necessary for the root method I chose in the end.

Furthermore, I unfortunately was on another computer when attempting to root and this computer will not pick up the driver for android, even though I've downloaded the latest version onto my phone. Attempting to browse through my folders to the driver and trying to allow windows to install the driver has failed as well.

If I'm not 'bricked' then what method am I supposed to go with in order to get my phone back to some semblance of working order? Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!!

You need to get the dreaimg.nbh file onto your sd card . Use a card reader or another phone if you have to . But , you did say rogers . It might be different for a rogers phone . Anyone else using a rogers dream that can jump in ? Btw , which rooting method did you use ?

I used an app-based version. Had a lot of trouble finding the source files for Haykuro... Most of the roots require those files, I finally managed to find a link that worked.

I was able to get the SD card into my computer and took out the "update.zip" file I had in there and added the DREAIMG.nbh file (this WAS the recommended file for the Rogers root) - the phone is booting up now and working, however I've got a T-Mobile G1 phone now and not a rogers phone.

This is a better place to be but still not in the right direction - I can't help but laugh right now At least my phone isn't bricked. Anyone had to deal with THIS issue yet? And even if its a "T-Mobile" phone, if I have the Rogers wireless/data settings, will it work?

Thanks to simms22 for getting back to me so quickly

if anything , there is a GREAT link in my sig to root your phone . if you need haykuros files for the g1 , then you are using a really old method(at least for a g1) .

Will that get me back on the Rogers' network though? I cant' get past the setup screen for the Tmobile where it asks for a gmail account. Though I have one, there's no network available and there's no skip button (Rogers setup offers you a skip through the entire 'setup for noob' process).

there is an option to skip the setup . if you have the rogers information to input into the phone , i assume it would work . at least edge , probably not 3g .

I managed to get the phone working but I'm currently only running as such (same as before...):
    DREA210 PVT 32B
    HBOOT-0.95.0000
    CPLD-4
    RADIO-1.22.12.29

A number of issues with this:
    1. T-mobile G1 phones don't work with Rogers 3G and I'm paying for that service.
    2. Have tried using multiple update.zip files to no avail
    3. Have discovered there's no fastboot in this version so I can't even get around it that way.

HELP! I don't want to have a crappy phone, it was SUPPOSED to be fantastic. I can't find clear instructions as to how to update the HBOOT version so that I can have FASTBOOT functionality, thus allowing me to trace back to the original rogers version so I can get 3G and start the root from scratch. It's been a while since anyone has made a recent post about this version of HBOOT so any help would be greatly appreciated. And for info, I've set the developer mode in the phone, taken the battery out, done the "HOME and POWER" buttons to get to the installer but when I have any update.zip file there, it fails verification. I'm assuming I'm not trying to install the correct version here. I'm not sure if I can even FIND the correct version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - and again, thanks to simms22 for the speedy responses!
