Wow... that's pretty easy! I still get flashbacks of me rooting my myTouch 1.2!
***I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY OF WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE, WHILE THERE IS LITTLE RISK OF BRICK, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE OTHERWISE***
YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY SETTINGS OR DATA DOING THIS*
Download the following zip file and rename it to update.zip
Step 1. Connect your phone to your computer and copy the renamed update.zip to the root of your internal memory
Step 2. Turn the phone off after file transfer is complete
Step 3. Hold both Volume Up and Volume Down while powering on the device to enter the recovery menu
Step 4. Select Reinstall Packages from the recovery menu using Volume Up and Down to navigate, and Power to select
Step 5. Phone will automatically reboot, and you will have root privileges, and the Superuser program installed.

This is actually the same method used to root the Galaxy S and the Vibrant, it should work on the Fascinate and Epic when they are released too. Stay tuned.

Lol, yes we are getting spoiled. Thanks. What about ROM's? Any out there yet that you would suggest? I put cyogen on my MT3G and N1. I just want this lag to stop!

Finally got it. Now Set CPU force closes when I try to use it!!!
Fixed it! Seems to be a tad faster. I will play around with it and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

I checked out the zip file and it contains these files:
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/xbin/busybox
/system/xbin/su
Does running this update do anything other than copy these files to the phone's storage? I'd like to know because I want to unroot my phone after doing a few things. So more importantly, after removing these files manually, is there any trace remaining that the device has been rooted?
