Thread: Removing the Camera from the Droid Eris

Default Removing the Camera from the Droid Eris

I need to remove, or completely and obviously permanently disable, the camera to my HTC Droid Eris.

What's the best way to do this without damaging the rest of the phone, or ruining the appearance?

    Thanks.

take the back off and put tape over the camera.

If you get root there is an app in the market, root explorer, that can delete system apps. Not sure if the Eris has been rooted yet though.

Why would people want to do this ? Is the camera that bad ?

I can't have a camera at work. And finding a phone I actually want to use that doesn't have a camera is pretty much impossible. So after noticing the back came off to remove the microSD for this phone i figured it was a good place to start.

Tape probably won't do the trick, but I'll see if I can destroy it some other way and look into removing even the options to use a camera with root.

    Thanks,

I don't think you want to do that. You should buy a cheap phone without a camera and use it at work. How would you prove to your employer that you really have disabled the camera.

Perhaps take off the back cover and throw some black tape to block the camera opening.

You had any luck yet. I work at a facility that does not allow camera phones and I removed the camera from my iPhone. It works fine but, I would really like to get an Android phone on the Verizon network because AT&T is just not cutting it for me.

I might give the Droid a try.
