Default Qs about rooting using these 2 links...

I am getting ready to root my G1. It's already on Ebay now as a rooted G1.

I looked at this link but I noticed he haven't updated the original post since he talk about updating it to JF. I am sure the answer is someplace in there but I don't feel like reading pages after pages.

It seems most recommend updating it to this version...

    Now my question...

    In this line...

switch off the phone again and then hold down the home key while you switch it on. Keep the home key held down until you see the recovery screen (with the "!" triangle and the picture of the phone). Then press Alt+L on the keyboard and if you see "Using test keys" on the second line of text then the modified recovery image is installed and you can now install the modified firmware by hitting Alt-S. You should now be on JF 1.41 RC30/RC8. Enjoy...
Do I have to have both RC30 files and CM4.0.4 files on the SDcard? So when I press Alt-S it will install CM4.0.4?

well you can go straight to cm4.0.4 but some people say they have had problems doing that so it might be a good idea to go to rc30 then flash cyan after that

So I have to root it and use JF version first before I can install CM 4.0.4 right?

    Now it's getting confusing...

I believe Konzern just said that people have problems going straight to CM4.0.4 so I take it that you have to go to JF version first.

So now Simms22 said that I can go straight to CM4.0.4.

    Who is right here?

Do I need to go to JF version first before I can install CM4.0.4 or can I install CM4.0.4 right away?

all im saying is that a user on here said that he rooted a friends phone and it was having problems when he went straight to CM so he had do go back to jf rc30 then jf1.51 then CM

but all you have to do is give it a try with CM if everything works then your all good

you can go straight to cyans rom . if you bootloop on the android screen (if) , just perform a wipe and reapply the update . you will be fine . most ppl have no problem , some do . but all manage to get there
anyways , you should do whats most comfortable for you . enjoy !
