I was expecting Android to have Google Docs available... so afte rreading your points I understand now why it has to be available... I'm currently using the AK notepad to take notes...
But what I really would prefer is a notepad that I can take notes on then has an option of "send to Gmail"... so later when I get to my PC I can transfer it over to Google Doc and do the finishing touches on it...
If there is already one out there with that capability let me know... I discarded my other one because AK came out with a time reminder feature which the other was just basic...

good point endmp25 -- even being able to send to gmail...

Wait -- WE HAVE COPY AND PASTE!!! Take THAT, iPhone!

Okay... but still, I see your point, mailing from a notepad would be great. I'd still like to be able to edit what people send me in e-mail (I count as a business user, though most of my working day is at the desk I do occasionally have need of reading e-mails somewhere not at my desk and right now I can't do that because we don't have Outlook on the G1 unless you're on the same network as the server which won't happen because it's against our SOP and.,.... )

So yeah, we should have OOo and Adobe Reader and a few others that bizzy users require. Otherwise G1 will remain a personal phone, business users will stick with their Blackberries and iPhones, and those of us like me who wanted an open source phone on T-mobile with all the bells and whistles the G1 has will simply be forced into something they don't want: either a not-so-business phone, or a phone they don't want to use due to hardware or OS limitations.

Supposedly Quickoffice is working on an android OS version

I've emailed them to try and confirm and ask about potential release date - if I get a response I'll post it. I'm sure we'll have some good options for office docs as more paid apps come out - now where to store them is another issue....

    Wonder what it'll cost...

I don't need office functionality on my G1, though it would help for some situations. Would also cut down on some specialized apps I'd use (e.g. budget, fuel economy, other things that can be done in a spreadsheet).

I wonder what it would cost and how functional it would be....

While OpenOffice on a smartphone would be great, I'd like to see it on an Android-based netbook (e.g. the Touch Book by Always Innovating).
