Default Multimedia Streaming From PC To Android Device?

Hello all, my first post in here!

Just poking around in here and drooling at getting a G1 on the 21st (hope that line isn't long) and also looking at microSDHC cards to get. While my mp3 player is 20+gigs of flash memory and the G1 is limited to size limits of microSDHC (8GB) I was wondering on the possibilities of streaming stuff from my home computer to this phone. Media streaming similar to my PS3 being able to play/display music/movies/pics from my computer would be awesome!

Thus was wondering on the possibilties with this on the G1 anytime soon. I'm guessing that even with EDGE (live in a 3G coverage area so that should be more of the norm when say, going to the store) - music streaming should be feisable. So assuming my home PC can be seen from the outside I should be able to hook up a G1 to play whatever is shared.

Soooo yea, in short streaming music from home PC to phone would kick ass & get over storage hurdle & wondering what's the do-ability of this

Just a couple bits of info first:

The phone is being released on the 22nd, so please don't show up at the store on the 21st

The phone supports the 16gb Sandisk cards now.

I'm hoping that TCPMP will be ported to Android, because it does allow this sort of functionality. Slingbox support would be awesome as well.

Tread has also posted a couple great links above

TCPMP is by far the best application for media streaming on mobile data devices... if you go to their site you'll notice that the open source project has been ended and is looking to go commercial, but hopefully someone will port it over...

How does Orb work? Like, how would I access something that is streaming to my computer (Like a webstream) on my phone?

Thanks all! Didn't know microSDHC 16GB cards are available already but looking forward to whenever that'll drop into the marketplace.

Thanks for the links trend! Those applications seems like they'll do the trick, except I also gotten used to Linux as of late lol. Curious if those apps will work through WINE though. Would also be slightly curious if any of the other apps you folks listed would work where the computer is the server & no middle-man website is needed so getting an IP address for PC/home network would be all that's required.

And thanks for the heads up Jorsher, saved me 24 hours of camping out

orb a is a small client that runs on the background of your computer, kind of like an ftp client... its a very easy to use GUI based, not text based like a lot of FTP clients are...

basically you have the client running on your computer, specificy what media you want access to and what the public has access to...

you go to my.orb.com, use your login that you created when you installed the program, and it has a very nice flash based program that lets you access all your media... you can then stream it to a computer via windows media player etc... thats why i'm thinking orb will be ready to go when you take your G1 out of the box, all the software you need is already going to be on there.. and yes there is a mobile version of the site when you logni, i'm able to access my text based menu options for all my media on the default internet explorer on windows media player...

its hard to explain it in words, just use it and love it

@G-won get Subsonic or Orb. Jukefly is also good, you should also try it out.

Btw, I've made a list of some good applications to stream music and videos from PC. You can read it here.

The idea for this post came out when I got a WiFi connection at my home and started searching for some good music streaming app from PC coz I only have a 2GB Card on my phone in which I cannot keep my 10Gigs+ lib of music. :P

There were a lot of apps about for audio streaming.
I want to present Androstream Pro. I think it the best soft for streaming.
It can play any video which can be played by VLC-player on the computer.
Works on the Linux and on the Windows.
    Link to offsite.
