haha for a good time look below the quick reply box and look at the similar threads. tons of people crying about multitouch and here it is.
Oh, I'm sorry you enjoyed me on the forums but *susan* has ran me off and should run off other potential awesome members in the future.
Ok, no slamming/flaming allowed.
I had JFv1.3. I downloaded JFv1.41 onto my laptop. I mounted my sd card, renamed the file to update.zip and copied it to my sd card. Then, I safely removed my sd card. Next, I booted by hitting home and power, which brought up the system recovery utility. Then I pressed alt+s. When I do that, I get the following:
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
I am sure it is just my less than intelligent self missing something, so can one of you wonderfully intelligent, tech savvy folks help me out?
im officially rooted. =] yippie! now how would i go about installing a modded firmware?
G1 fan. ( And to think i got it as a BACKUP! for my 2G iphone! ) wth was i thinking.
Not strong enough for me to root my phone. I could care less about multi-touch.
Give me virtual keyboard + flash + improved battery life (and I doubt you need rooted G1) for me to consider this.
But keep up the good work.

Susan, it sounds like you let windows fool the file extension . . . if your extensions are hidden in Windows, you probably remaned it update.zip.zip by accident. Boot into Android and check the file name in /sdcard with ASTRO or Terminal Emulator. Rename to update.zip. That has to be the problem unless your SDcard isn't fully inserted.
If you rooted your G1, you have RC29 installed. You need to download the JF RC30v1.4.1 off of XDA or a mirror. Upload it to your sdcard and remane the file to update.zip, but be careful you don't make it update.zip.zip. Power off and reboot holding home + power into recovery console, and flash the update.zip by pressing alt + S. You might have to do a factory reset after that, so backup whatever you don't want to lose before attemping to upgraydd.
susan, make sure the update is named "update.zip" make sure you're not doubling the extension name: "update.zip.zip", or something.
windows hides file extension names.
edit: damn, rynosaur always beats me.![]()
