    Question Magnetometer...?

I don't know if the onboard magnetic field sensor is sensitive enough for it to be used in any real way for something like this, but I was thinking of something along the lines of a magnetometer like Ghost Hunters use on their investigations.

Also, if anyone could figure out the tech behind it, a K2 meter would be cool.

    Just my 2 1/2 cents. ^^

Ummm, you do realize that the "science" in Ghost Hunters is not only questionable and unproven by any scientific method to detect "ghosts", but the show itself over-sensationalizes absolutely everything about their investigations thanks to creative editing.

Welcome to the wonderful world of "reality" television.

That being said, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile might be missing a fantastic marketing opportunity to show off their phones during an investigation.

Ghost Hunters is a "variety show". If you believe for one second what's going on in it, you are an idiot. Just watch "Cash Cab" instead.

Maybe I should've added that I suggested this for the fun and/or possibilities of the app, and not because I believe everything I see/read/hear...

Anyway... You mean to tell me that with some of the apps that are in the app store, that my suggestion is THAT bad? I appreciate the input, but I do have some intelligence. The Boogie Man in my closet told me it'd be a good idea, and Santa said that if I mentioned the show, I'd get something other than coal this year for Christmas. ;p

Like I said, I think that the mobile carriers are missing out on a cheap ad-placement opportunity for doing something like that.

the words magnet and android in the same sentence scares me. Many G1 owners learned the hard way that magnetic cases ruin the compass. Not sure if this is an issue on newer android phones. does anyone know?

yea its still an issue . i recently helped a droid owner who thought the compass was broken . turns out that my suggestion that it was a magnetic snap on a case was right . it was a happy droid owner after that .

so how did you fix it? I was told my G1 could only be repaired by replacing the parts and exposure to a magnet is not covered under warranty
