has anyone successsfully updated the firmware with a regualr SD card?
i cannot seem to get it to update.
Its working now. I followed the instructions exactly the first time that didn't work I named the file update.zip instead of "update". Now that its renamed just update it is working. I first hit alt-l and then atl-s so I can see the progress bar. Do we delete the file from sd card once we do the update.
Update: The device shows up when I connect to USB but I get an error when I click on E: drive after I connect with PC." PLease insert a disk into drive E"

wow it worked! good looking out guys!
G1 is so good, they ought to make it a vitamin!
Got mine to work by removing .zip as well. Kudos tho whoever figured this one out... Is stuff like this reversible?
I removed the card and removed the update.zip file then I reisntalled it and booted up the phone. You have to go to the notification bar and there is an option to usb connect select to copy files to /from computer and then you can sync the information with the computer. It says something like mount or unmount the sd card. This is the option to copy file with computer.

On all three of our phones NONE of the TMO supplied SD cards would do the upgrade (even if formatted)... odd considering some got it to work.
Purchased a $7 2GB micro-SD card from Fry's (Crucial 2GB for 7.99, if you are near fry's they had a different SKU 2GB crucial for 14.99) here and it worked perfectly on the upgrade.
Onc caveat on the process... This is the way I saw it
1. Power + Home
2. Graphical ! screen comes up, open keyboard, Alt-L, then Alt-S
3. Verifies and works with the upgrade when done will ask to reboot
4. Updates the radio firmware before reboot
5. On FIRST reboot it will place the graphical "writing memory" icon and reboot again
6. On SECOND reboot it will quickly (at least on our phones) show the graphical progress indicator for update then reboot
7. On Third reboot all is good and Android puts to RC29
Also got an 8GB Kingston here for $39 USD, they were out of the Patriot one for 29 USD.
Worked great. Everyone, It's very simple to install.Once again thank you, For the post.
