Inventory/Talking Ringtone Program

I've been trying to learn some Java to help out with programs for the Android OS, but it's gonna be a while before I can do much of anything decent so I thought I'd post my two ideas that I have been working on. First one is an inventory program, basically being able to scan a barcode and keeping an inventory of things you buy. I'm going to be putting in a bathroom and would like an easier way to keep track of the money and materials that I'll be using without having to constantly be entering it into my computer. Of course have areas that you can put in quantities and notes and what not just in case and creating different projects of which to keep the list in. Second is basically a text to speech ringtone. I've always wanted my phone to say Mr./Mrs. _____, _____ is trying to call you, or something to that nature. Basically an audible Caller ID. And if it was just a phone number than I could have it say "Unknown" or say the number outloud. Just a thought. I'm working on these programs right now but they definately won't be done anytime soon. I just started teaching myself last weekend. I'm sure these ideas would be of use to other people's needs too. Thank you.

Both are great ideas.

I would love an inventory program that could be used for purchases of materials -- I make jewelry as a hobby, and while many shops don't use barcodes for unpackaged items, packaged findings and things may have them. And this would be a great way to track supplies for my real job... a work at home office where it would be easy to scan supplies while buying them or taking them out of the shipping box and keep a better track of overhead, etc.
