totally agree
I am sure there are plenty of people out there working on this but I just wanted to express my NEED for a virtual keyboard.
I am a long time Blackberry user and I always loved the fact that there is nothing you can do on a Blackberry with two hands that you cant do with one. Unfortunately the same cant be said for the G1. With a solid portrait mode virtual keyboard most of my dissatisfaction would be dealt with.
I understand that the screen is a bit narrow in portrait and so a full QWERTY keyboard may not be possible however I think Blackberry really hit the nail on the head with the Pearl style virtual keyboard employed on the new Storm. The "buttons" are much bigger and each have two letters on them. I am sure something like this must be possible for the G1.
Thanks and if I am repeating something previously posted and you guys who hate to see repeat threads are annoyed please just link me in the right direction and keep the rude comments to yourself.
totally agree
I just hope they offer several variations..
QWERTY is cool (as demonstrated by Qsearch Application in the market)
But T9 and 2Key should be just as easy to impliment and would offer some much needed diversity lol.
yeah if android would have the BB Pearl style keyboard that would be cool, cuz i love that keyboard layout.
yah too bad the storm's touch screen is a POS..
u try and push the letter G but u end up pressing all the keys around it!
but i agree on screen keyboard is a must..
I just found this posted back in october. Perhaps the people at google will be the ones to answer our prayers.

PS - I'm on my g1 and only read the first post.
I agree as well. I've really been craving a virtual keyboard... but I'm trying to be patient....ugh.
I resorted to typing messages in Qsearch to use the virtual keyboard... then copied the text and tried to paste it into the sms application..
then I realized I still needed to open the keyboard to paste and to select my contact

to use bb's pearl style keyboard, i'm pretty sure there would be some licensing issues with the multi-tap software cause i believe reasearch in motion owns both the patents for the multi-tap keyboard and software...
for example, the t-mobile shadow has the same multi-tap keyboard, but t-mobile had to get a license from blackberry to use it, but used their own software library...
i would love that keyboard in portrait mode though if its possibe...
Buy the rumor, Sell the news.
Hey, the Iphone has a virtual keyboard. Might I suggest you get one of those bad boys. (Then you might complain how much you need a physical one). Human race is too picky..
Me and Android are officially connected.
