Well, at least that is what I am looking for, and that unfortunately didn't work with either of your suggestions.
The new gmail account chosen running the Setup Wizard was just ignored, so that when I opened Gmail and even tried resyncing it, it would just show me the messages from the original account.
Clearing Gmail data just cleared the messages stored on the phone, but as soon as I sync again it will download the messages from the old gmail account, it won't give me the option to choose a new one.
What I have been doing is using my own Gmail account as an extra Email account, but all the other above mentioned apps are not really functional.
Thanks for all your help and patience - and forgive me for the long post - and also if I missed something!
Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I have been able to clear the activation gmail by going back to set factory default. Right now i have my own gmail running. I would say this is one the the best site. Am having a swell time with my phone and would say its one of the best smartphones around.

Re: How do i delete Gmail account on g1 to enter a new account.
hi.
i've got an unlocked g1 with the same problems.
but there's just no such option as "clear data" while managing google apps. and reseting the cell to the factory data doesn't remove the previous gmail account.
and sure i can't enter the market and download any cut.
