Just do a factory reset

If was someone else's phone, you should just do a factory reset and clear all settings and data. But you don't have to reset just to change accounts -- you can run the Setup wizard through Any Cut.

Go to the market and download the app "AnyCut"
Using AnyCut, create a shortcut to the activity "Setup Wizard" Run setup wizard. |

I could run the wizard but my phone is still linked to the old gmail account... I guess the factory reset is necessary after all

...or, the easiest way is to clear data in GMail.
Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Gmail - Clear data. |

Maybe I misunderstood the original question, but I believe that he didn't want to just clear the former user's stored emails. As the title of the thread says, what he wanted was to get rid of the first gmail account that was linked to his phone, so he could set up his own gmail account and use the stack apps that are based on the user's gmail account (Calendar, Contacts, Gmail - and My Maps Editor).
Well, at least that is what I am looking for, and that unfortunately didn't work with either of your suggestions. The new gmail account chosen running the Setup Wizard was just ignored, so that when I opened Gmail and even tried resyncing it, it would just show me the messages from the original account. Clearing Gmail data just cleared the messages stored on the phone, but as soon as I sync again it will download the messages from the old gmail account, it won't give me the option to choose a new one. What I have been doing is using my own Gmail account as an extra Email account, but all the other above mentioned apps are not really functional. Thanks for all your help and patience - and forgive me for the long post - and also if I missed something! |
