    Default Hope someone can help?

    Hello everyone,

I am new around but been a lurking for awhile. I am finally gonna take the plunge and try JACHero r2.1b. I was hoping someone can guide me for a few steps or maybe more? lol

I have the latest radio image because I currently have cupcake, 1.5.
    My questions are:
    A) Do I need to downgrade to RC29 before using JACHero r2.1b?
    B) Do I need to do anything special with my SD Card?
    C) Do I need to flash the radio even though in the bootloader it is reporting: RADIO-2.22.19.26I. I Know I have to flash the SPL second after the radio if I am doing so, or I could brick my phone. SPL is HBOOT-0.95.0000

I tried finding any kind of guides, but mostly they relate to rooting your phone, so I am not sure if I follow those steps first or???

Sorry, been googling around for awhile on it.

    THanks!

    a) yes you need to be rooted to use any rom
    b) im not sure if this rom requires apps2sd but im pretty sure it can run without apps2sd
c)if you are absolutly positive that you have the latest radio then NO you dont need to flash it again

There are 2 new Hero ROMS, JAC’s updated one and a new one from Fatal1ty. Now neither is perfect (far from it actually) but it’s a bit quicker than the JAC old ROM and looks as though they are from the actual Hero device (has the new clock and boot logo). Try them out and let me know what you think.
*Some Notes about the New Hero Roms (6/30/09) -
    • Once you reboot after loading the ROM and go through the set up process the phone will reboot. It’s normal.
    • After you get to the home screen for the first time, just set the phone down as it will sync with Google servers like normal, but the phone is reallly slow while it is syncing for the first time so just go take a nap or something.
    • As with all Hero ROMs, the less widgets, the faster the ROM. So don’t go nuts with widgets just yet (still waiting for an optimized ROM that will let us do that…)
    • NO NEED TO RELOAD THE RADIO AND SPL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE SO! Just rename the new ROM file to update.zip, put on SD card and Alt W then Alt S in the recovery utility.
We only recommend people familiar with flashing radios, roms, spls, etc. attempt this. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
    1. Download the lastest Radio, SPL, and Hero ROM from here:
    Radio
    SPL
UPDATE!! NEW HERO ROM! (06/30/09) – JAC HERO ROM v2.0
UPDATE!! NEW HERO ROM! (06/30/09) – Fatal1ty Hero ROM
    2. Plug in the G1 to the computer, pull down the notification and click it. Then click Mount.
    3. Save each one to the memory card of the G1 in the Root (topmost) folder.
    4. Rename the Radio file to update (YOU MUST LOAD THE RADIO FIRST, DO NOT DO THESE OUT OF ORDER OR YOU WILL FREEZE YOUR DEVICE).
    5. Unplug the G1.
    6. Turn off the G1.
    7. Turn back on the G1 by holding down Home and End buttons at the same time. When the screen comes up, Alt S to apply the radio update.
    8. Once the phone is done hold Home and Back to reboot.
    9. Plug in the G1, open the SD card on the computer, and delete the update.zip file (used to be the Radio file), and rename the SPL file to update.zip this time.
    10. Unplug the G1 and turn it off. Turn it back on holding Home and End again.
    11. Hit Alt S to apply the SPL update.
    12. Once the phone is done hold Home and Back to reboot.
    13. Plus the G1 back into the computer, open the SD card and delete the update.zip (used to be the SPL) and rename the Hero file as update.zip.
    14. Unplug the G1, turn it off and then back on by holding the Home and End keys.
    15. When the screen comes on, hit Alt W to wipe the handset, then Alt S to apply the Hero ROM.
    16. Once the phone is done hold Home and Back to reboot.
    17. Wait a long time for the phone to boot up (it may take a while to boot up, so long as you do not see the logo symbol with the android popping out over and over and over then keep waiting. If you do see the android popping out over and over, then take out the battery, put it back in, and turn the phone on).
    18. Once the phone is at the home screen and you have set everything up, goto Terminal in your menu and type:
    su
    chown system.system /data/app
^This will allow you to download applications from the Market.
    19. DONE!
Enjoy the ROM, and when you are ready to revert back to whatever ROM you had before, just plug the G1 in, delete the update.zip (used to be the Hero ROM), and put whatever other ROM file you want on the SD card (renaming it to update.zip), and turn off the phone and turn it back on holding the Home and End keys. Hit Alt W and then Alt S to load your old ROM back up.

are you sure it's not named update.zip.zip? it's at the root of your sdcard?

i always make a copy of it on my desktop. then rename and transfer to sdcard. i never rename it once it's on the card. but then again, i always safely unmount from pc. that could be the op's problem. or hes not unmounting the phone.
