k i want to root my t mobile g1 , there are too many threads with slightly diff methods to accomplish this , is it safe to do the one click root , or should i go the traditional way , also wich build should i go with , im kinda confused
first of all i don't have a data plan so i wonder if this is an issue when flashing
second this is my everyday phone so i do want a stable build
third wut do buidls do different or better than others
the main reasons i want to root is for apps to sd , multi touch , and if possible to change the color of the task bar ,im not sure of wich builds have wut features , i am new to this , so if sumone cand kinda point me in the right direction with all that would be needed for wut i am lookin to do

K SO I JUS DOWNGRADED TO RC 29 BUT CANNOT ACTIVATE MY PHONE CUZ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316 I CAN'T COMPLETE THIS TASK
k im root , how do i get multi touch how do i load themes , how do i change builds
Sigh scratch all that, to get a THEM* [I went on about a rom] just go to xda devs and click themes, make sure its compatiable with the rom your using, download, then flash. Multi touch comes with most roms. You don't really need to change builds but if you want you wipe and flash.
alt + w
then
alt + s
You will loose your apps.
You must go to the market first thing after it boots.
Always preform a nandroid back up.
Head over to xda-developers.com and go to forums
Click the g1 [Dream] then go to Devolopement and pick a STABLE Cyan ROM! Then download it, rename it to - update - just the word update none of those -'s I added to space the word out. Just update.
Then put it on your sd card, be sure not to put it in a sub folder or anything.
The file you will have downloaded will be a compressed file [a .zip] this is how you want it, after renaming it to update put it on the sd card.
Unmount.
Let the sd card ready it self.
Turn the phone off.
Reboot it by pressing and holding home and power then create a nandroid backup [it should be a selection avilavle it will soon be done after about .................................................. .......... that many periods.
Then hit ALT + S and select the home button to confirm the action.
This will flash that .zip folder and give you a cyan rom which will have multi touch.
It should work, if it doesn't just restore the nandroid backup and no harm done.
As ice said, there are lots of choices. Take a look here.
