GPS mapper without Internet

I would like a GPS tracker that shows your location on a simple map (world map, zoomable to at least US state level), also showing speed, that doesn't require an Internet connection to get the map imagery. I would like to be able to track my whereabouts when I am flying, without enabling any of the radios.

I'll bet a company like Garmin will be working on it especially if the Android platform proliferates. Hopefully by then, there are larger micro sdhc cards available to hold all of the maps you would need.

How do I get the map program to read maps from the card as opposed to the net?

There would have to be an app for it. I want one too for camping and stuff.
