Getting the selected EditText

I have an Edittext and a button, when that button is pressed I want something to populate that EditText field only if it is selected. I tried the IsSelected propoerty but I think one I press the button it is not tecnically selected. Any ideas?

I got this working, now when I add the character to the field, the cursor goes back to the left, I'm looking at how to make it on the right.
