I've noticed when creating wallpaper through photoshop, the quality once on the phone is a bit choppy.
is there a certain resolution or file type to set the image too?
does this template of yours have these settings or high quality?
I have created a Photoshop (PSD) template that can be used to create your own wallpapers for the T-Mobile G1. The guides show where the screen breaks are. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

After you create your background in Photoshop click 'File' > 'Save For Web & Devices..." The 'Save For Web & Devices' dialog will appear. You want to adjust the settings to 'JPEG High' then adjust the 'Quality' value to at least 90%. With these settings you should be able to create crystal clear wallpapers.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks

Thanks a bunch. Will give it a try tonight.
Maybe it's the version of PS I'm using (lowly PS7) but all I get is a single-layered PSD at 640x480 (and it contains one layer, named Layer 2.) What am I missing?
EDIT: Ah, when rereading your post I caught the word "guides" and subsequently turned the guides on (CTRL + ; ) and there they were.
So the screen displays 320x480?*
*Is it too obvious that I don't, yet, own a G1? The missus and I are trying to get a hands-on demo (we're in Seattle, shouldn't be too difficult) before making the leap.

Works fine in GIMP!![]()
Cool, I've been wondering if anyone is going to make 3 part wallpapers. Imaging one with Phone, Web, and Game sections with a different look each--just an example.
This particular PSD is broken up into 4 areas though as I recall I saw a video of a guy's G1 that had common apps in the center section, he scrolled right for work contacts and scrolled left (of center) for work apps/files (I'm not entirely trusting my memory of what was used, just that there were 3 separate sections that he'd had in mind when designing his wallpaper.)
I like the idea of breaking the wallpaper down into specific areas, seems like it'd help keep things tidy.
Just for reference, I made this last week when I got my G1... Shared the JPG on the forums here somewhere, but here is the PSD, just in case someone prefers this method... very similar, just a different approach
jpg shown, but zipped psd has layers split up, and guides showing:
