    Default G1 as a modem

Reason why T-mobile, At&t, ect....... dont give the option of using your ph. as a modem is because they would loose money. Think about it how much do they charge for internet on a labtop about $60 a month. Now why would they wanna have you use your ph. as a modem which would be pretty fast with a 3G connection. Think about it for G1 the data plan goes for $25, $35 a month now compare that with $60 a month for labtops, $35-45 a month for home internet. All this companies would loose money. There was an app for Iphone for using it as a modem and they took it off the market. Its all about $ thats my opinion.

Well yes thats true but mainly because it would but such a strain on thier network. I could imagine users trying to use bit torrent of thier phone or other bandwidth hungry applications. It would surely degrade the 3G experience for alot of users.

but yes thanks for also pointing out the obvious....
cant put this damn phone down...

Of course that strain on the network ultimately comes back to money as well. So again... we're waltzing around what everyone knows.

I sometimes wonder if people were given all of the features they so thought they "deserved" without having to pay for them how loud they would complain about the "value" of those services when they actually got them and found that they didn't perform well because there was no money to maintain them. People have no problem screaming for stuff they want, they just seem to think that all of that stuff doesn't have any costs to provide.

I used to use my LG CU400 from AT&T as a modem on 3G.
Pretty sure my T-Mobile Dash did it also, but never used it since T-Mobile didn't have 3G at all yet (or even in my state today)

I used my old BB as a modem regularly on t-mo. Granted, i could only connect to the EDGE network, and that may be a different story. I think tethering ability is more dependent on the phone's OS then t-mo. Tmobile is much nicer then VZW and doesn't lock down their phone and make them less useful. (Did you know that the only reason the new BB Storm doesn't have WiFi is b/c VZW and Vodafone told RIM to remove it or else...)
