Failing at the most basic step?

I'm trying to root my G1, but I'm having a problem I can't seem to get around

Every time I try to format to fat32 I get this error. I mount the SD card and go in and check the files and it works and then I try to format and bam. Then it magically unmounts itself and I have to remount it

I guess I could try getting a reader from my friend and see if that works

I borrowed my friends card reader and got everything to work

I'm now rooted and cupcaked

if you dont have a sd reader what can you do?? cuz i got this problem too
