External Hdd/media reader interface through mini-usb

I don't know if this was discussed before or not, sorry if it was, but..

I would love to be able to hook up an external Hdd through the mini-usb and have it play movies/music off of the external drive or be able to connect a compact flash/any card type reader to the mini-usb and have it read the contents, heck, have it be able to sync up to any usb interfaced hardware, maybe even a webcam for video calls

yes, i would pay for this app, even up to the $40+ range

This would have to be a Hardward/Software combination and the softward might even have to be written to operate at the OS level, which means a revision of the OS would be needed.

This is not impossible, but maybe difficult.

Would you settle for some sort of slingbox arrangement that would allow it to acces the media over Wifi?

I do appreciate the quick reply Darrell

but, no, wifi/slingbox is out of the question and really not at all what I am thinking, if that were the case I would just upload files to my server and pull them down to the G1, in certain situations this is not possible and/or not practicle

case in point: my slr camera takes a non-micro sd card, if my client needs a quick look at something, at very high quality, with the media card reader hooked up to my G1, I could dump the image from the slr's card to my G1 then upload it to the client, he could then call me, tell me to adjust this or that, all while im still out in the field, and I could upload the result and repeat the process.

It took 35 pages to find out someone else is thinking along the same line.An external decive that would hold apps and transfer them back and forth.
