You actually need to ROOT your phone before you can install and run custom roms .
I'm trying to flash and root my Rogers HTC Dream and install Cyanogen mod.
I'm following the instructions on the Cyanogen Mod Wiki, but I can't even get passed the first step. When I try to install the image, I get an error at the "Verifying signature" step, "Model ID incorrect" which fails the flash.
Here's the Wiki: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...to_CyanogenMod
Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
I'm running a Rogers-branded HTC Dream on Cupcake 1.6.

I understand that. Following the steps in the Wiki, I apparently need to downgrade in order to root first, which is where I am failing. Am I doing something in the wrong order?
[EDIT] Doing a bit more research, it looks like the Rogers Dream uses a different signature than the US G1s. I'm trying to find out how to flash the Rogers Dream.

you need to root your phone following the instructions for a rogers dream , those are for a tmobile g1 . here , http://www.jukie.net/~bart/blog/rooting-rogers-dream
Thanks. I took a look at his instructions but it looks like he's using an older version of the bootloader(?) than I am, and apparently I cannot follow that write-up as I have one of the newer phones.
I found more information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558301
However, the link to download the root kit is broken. Ugh.
