Question Create a Calendar Appointment from Contacts Manager

I have looked at every contact manager I can find for android and although there are plenty of sync apps for exchange and outlook, there seems to be a distinct void in the ability to create an appointment from your contact list.

As an example, I'm talking to a friend and he asks me to go somewhere with him on Saturday, so while I'm on the phone it would be nice if I could long press his contact information and when the menu comes up I can touch "create an appointment" and it pastes his information in the event and allows me to set the date and add additional information.

I have been searching apps for days and gone through manay looking for something like this. It seems like it would be a reliatively simple and useful app.

I know aContacts (http://www.cyrket.com/package/kz.mek.aContacts) you can add an event to a contact. Not sure if you will work the way that you would what it to, but I know that you can add it.

Thank you for that suggestion. I had gone through it earlier and never noticed the "add event in calendar" function. It has all the features I had hoped for including several I didn't mention in my original post.

The only problem I have is aContacts itself. I carry over 500 names in my address book and aContacts takes a very long time to open. Once it's open it's fine as long as I stay in it. As soon as I leave the app it takes that same extended period of time to open again.

But I have to admit, the grouping functions and all the features of aContacts makes it quite compelling. I can see where I could become addicted to the functions if it just handled the large contact database more efficiently.

Talking Re: Create a Calendar Appointment from Contacts Manager

UPDATE: Upgraded my OS to Cyanogen 4.2.2, reorganized my groups (remember 500 contacts) and set the default group to "business1" so that the display is more manageable.

The G1 overall is much faster with Cyanogen and aContacts boots quickly and is pretty smooth. I'm already loving it and it does everything I need, including callbacks and setting regular meetings.

Problem solved!: ... and then some!

The current release has a warning of not compatible with Android 2.0, so this doesn't seem to be very well engineered or supported. Once again I'm flabergasted with the ineptitude of this community when it comes to the VERY straightforward matter of contact data management!

    C'mon!!!!!!!!

Post to bump this back to the top in hopes that someone has come up with an answer...

Is there an App that allows you to go to a contact and schedule an appointment for them in the calender? or go to calender open a new event and beable to add contact info to that event.

This would be a breat timing saving function for those of us who use the phone to reach customers or schedule time with friends...it simply needs to inport contact info into the calender or work from the calender back to the contact information and pull it in

I'm still looking for an this. What I would like to do is:
    1) Open the calendar
Long press to add an event
Select a name from my contacts and have it added as the event name
    2) Open my contacts
    long press on a contact
select add to calendar and choose the date

#1 is required #2 would be nice

Here's the problem: Android is simply a weak system. The only reason you are having difficulty in finding the app you want is Anroid itself. I have a similar problem. I want to attach calendar events and other histories to contacts. An app to do that does not exist, although I hope someone will prove me wrong. By contrast, the Palm OS will accomplish what you desire AND what I desire. I wish Google had bought Palm and used it as a platform. I'm just surprised as to how "gaga" the public is with Anroid.

Good luck in your quest. I haven't helped you, I'm just commiserating.
