I am so addicted to craigslist... Free Stuff, Computers & Tech, etc etc
I think it would be great to have a Craigslist application. It would have to have two parts. First part would be used for locating items with a very specific search criteria, such as:
(item) "Sony" "Vaio" "Laptop"
(price range) "400-800"
(location) *State, County
It then pulls up any information based off headings that meet this criteria. Also, it should store this information and send you a text message when a post is made that matches your search information.
The second part, obviously would let you post your items to craigslist.
I love this idea because I don't have time to constantly check craigslist for deals. Usually by the time I do, they have already been sold.
Anyone else think they would find this app useful or have anything to add that would make it even better?

Basically, you are requesting an app similar to the Woot Checker, except in this case we are dealing with multiple items/sellers and an additional capability to post items.
You could try sending an email to pea****73@gmail.com
That's the contact of the app developer...
Cheers!
Had not even heard of the Woot app until it was just mentioned. Reading it over, it sounds like similar code. Perhaps that developer could re purpose the Woot code for Craigslist?
Thanks for the heads up
The code for the two would be pretty different. I'm not even sure if Craigslist exposes any kind of API. Most of it would have to be done via a WebView which wouldn't be much better than the browser.
Speaking of which, why not just use the browser? It's not like Craigslist is image intensive.
I was reading a response from the developer of an iPhone craigslist app and he pretty much said that it would be very difficult to rewrite it for the G1. He also did mention as you just said that Craigslist does not expose any APIs and information would need to be extracted via WebView.
I guess applications are cool and all but I don't mind using the browser to search those kinds of sites.
Edit: here's what he had to say
Your welcome, in the new year I am going to re-evaluation where the G1 system is, the trouble and this is the same for most developers that have worked on both systems, you pretty well have to re-write most of you code to goto the G1 and a lot of nice widgets Apple gives you just don't exist on the G! so that mean even more work, there are several articles on the web explaining the problem, the Craigslist app I wrote is very complicated and I am not sure the investment on the G1 would every pay off I would have to charge a lot more that I do on the iPhone, Alan
