P.S it would be really cool if inbuilt you could have wifi disabled via schedule and then re-enabled
I am sure a lot of people really do need this (i know i do..)
Basically, the app will do the following
If wireless hotspot is available (one that you have 'authenticated to') becomes available, it will automatically connect and use that hotspot and switch off 3G (data) usage.... and simply when the wireless is unavailable again, it will switch back onto 3G (data)
The senario is simple...
You are at work, and there is wireless, you connect there, you go out to lunch, 3G on... come back to office, wireless on, 3g OFF... your out at the shops, or on the way home.. 3G on.. you get home, 3G off, wireless off
Pretty cool hey?

If you like that kind of stuff, you should check out locale. Its like that app but it one-ups everything.

Well, Android already does what you were talking about in your first post about switching between Wifi/3g... and I think Locale is exactly what you need. Have you even tried it? Its truly one of the most useful android apps out there. Heres my daily scenario:
In the morning I'm at home so HOME mode is on, meaning the ringtone volume is on high, wifi on, and bluetooth on. Next, I get in my car and drive away from my home, so DEFAULT mode switches on which turns off Wifi and Bluetooth. Then, I arrive at school and the phone puts the ringtone on vibrate. Finally, I leave school and arrive back at home where my Wifi, Bluetooth, and Ringtone are turned back on. This is all done automatically. I never touch the settings at all. The phone keeps track of its location via GPS and changes the settings to match the location I'm at. If you don't want to use GPS, there is other ways you can set the app up so it will work on your schedule.

i see now... wow that is pretty handy lol..
but one question i have.... i worked out how to setup a profile when i am at work... and home... which are a particular setting, but what about when iam not at either... how do i setup a profile for that? and also how do i control if "Data" is enabled / disabled?
When you're on the home screen of the app, there is a button on the bottom right called "Configure Defaults". These are the settings that the phone turns to when none of the other situations are activated. I don't know if you can turn 3g off by default. Check if there is an add-on that can do that by hitting menu and then clicking "Get Plug-ins".

Synergy-thanks for the tip on this gem of a program! No more remembering to turn the volume off before I go to bed, or on when I get up, or messing around with turning wi fi on and off at work, home etc.
