Been trying the same thing, but so far I can't do. I would think that Google/T-Mobile would have done a pre-market study that would identify shortcomings like this. Seen other threads that addressed this issue. Best advice is "Be Patient".
I like being able to listen to podcasts through Bluetooth headsets. Since it's mono, true Stereo capability is secondary. My just retired SDA had this ability through software....and I will miss it a great deal if it cannot be done at some point.
Bluetooth audio, anyone?

Everything is coming out just right
There are a number of threads discussing this. What you're asking for is called A2DP. It's the bluetooth profile that allows for stereo audio. Google was unable to complete the G1's bluetooth stack before they went 1.0. They've essentially put it on the back burner to release later via a firmware update.
So, long story short, just sit tight. It should arrive "sometime."
Are there any apps out there that can do this? To be clear I am not talking about A2DP. I'm looking for an app similar to one I used to have with my windows mobile device that could toggle a bluetooth audio pass through. This is low quality audio, good for listening to talk radio, etc through a regular bluetooth headset. I believe it opens the audio up similar to being on a phone call. Anyone know of an app that does this? Thanks!
There are no apps like that but now with BT stereo in cupcake you don't need it.
I primarily listen to only podcasts and I don't need dual earpieces, so I bought the plantronics 855, which allows you to listen to stereo output with 1 earpiece. Works great. You can get one for about $40.
