I think everyone's forgetting the fact that having a GPS transponder would require a powered unit. Is ol' fido going to carry a battery with him as well? What about when that runs out?

If you have somethign like this on your dog's collar, you have to replace or charge the battery more than once a week.

I'm sure Garmin or other main GPS manufacturers will come out with an Android GPS tracking system which would allow you to simply plug in your GPS unit's unique ID number. You could track your dog, cars, kids all at once.
Doh, nevermind, didn't read page 2.

The forementioned "chip" that this forum is about is offically known as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Google it for more info.

Kind of off the subject but not, but you guys know that you can also have a RFID chip implanted into yourself. They showed it on mythbusters that you can submit yourself to get an RFID chip, much like the ones used on pets but smaller, primarilary for personal medical information. And the credit card companies are currently using RFIDs in those credit cards that you waive over the reader instead of swiping. They are also researching the use of RFID in place of credit cards, much like in Demolition Man.

Has lame as this seems your more then likely already able to do this with your computer, it would be the same as putting a tracking device on a car, just your putting one on ur pet. There is no app for it to work threw the G1 but lol if ur worried about losing ur pet u can deffently use a tracker+PC = find ur pet.
