Negative. I'm no pro, but the only way I would think that could be done is with a completely alternate home app (like openhome, ahome, etc).
Is there an application that does this already? would be nice if we can remove the arrow button so I can place another row of icons.

ahome removes the drawer and replaces it with a dock. You should check it out!
~has finally gotten off her lazy ass and registered. LONG time lurker. Loves her white G1 and gives kudos to the Android platform. Refuses to root, but has been tempted to way more times than she cares to admit. Contrary to notsopopular belief, there ARE girls on Digg and reddit and I am proudly one of them.**By reading this, you have just wasted 15 seconds(not that it matters) of your life and have lostthegame.
I don't like Ahome if there is a way to hide the app drawer I'd be interested myself.

it's a good idea. it would clean up the desktop. We might not be able to eliminate the drawer tab altogether, but why not creating a skin (I use Open Home) that has a drawer tab with 100% transparency? Just an idea. Thoughts?
With dxtop you can slide the drawers to the side and have a dock there instead. That's one of my favorite features about dxtop.
You're pretty much outa luck unless you d/l a homescreen replacement, maybe future releases will give you more control over the UI elements
