Amon Ra Recovery question

For future reference, can someone please explain the following for me.

Backup & restore. I make a nandroid backup before each cyan update, but I tried to restore yesterday and it just kept rebooting into recovery. Should I have wiped first?

Wipe. What exactly does this wipe? The SD Card or just the OS? And if I wipe, do I need to install the DreamNBH and then Cyan again or just cyan?

1. No you don't need to wipe before a restore. You may have a bad file in your nandroid folder. If your phone is up and running fine now, delete all the nandroid backups in the folder and then make a new one. You could save the nandroid folder to your desktop and it will make a new one.
2. A wipe just does the OS, there are options on Amon RA to wipe the ext. partition and the whole sd card.

You only need to do those steps if your wipe-data, if you wipe-ext partition you can just flash over....but you shouldn't need to wipe anything unless you are coming form a different rom

But doesn't wiping the ext clear all my apps out? I thought the ext partition was for apps2sd?

cmbarry1 is right, you only need to do that once. I was having problems with the market, got a gapps.acore force close. Cleared the cache, market cache, moved cache back and forth between internal storage and sd card. Nothing fixed the market so I started all over flashing the HTC 1.6 and went to Cyan 4.2.13 and it is as fast as can be.
