Add the neat G1 stuff to the emulator?

So I excitedly download SDK 1.0 R2 expecting to get all the cool G1 programs missing from R1; and Google is still dragging their feet. No syncing with Google stuff (not even a setup screen), no gmail app, no calender, no marketplace.

Anyone have any idea how to add the missing G1 programs? (why on earth are they missing?!)
How about syncing? I see the sync options everywhere, but since the emulator doesn't run the setup program on first boot I have no idea how to make it work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

All of those apps weren't in the first release of the emulator either. Those are phone specific apps.
