3G / Edge keeps switching back and forth

I'm in the Detroit area. New 3G area I guess.

My phone every minute switches between 3G and Edge.

There is strong signal on both, but it just keeps flipping back and forth on the icon display.

What to do?

I have the same issue here in Kirkland, WA (Seattle area). It switches between 1-2 bars of 3G to 3 bars of EDGE.

Same problem here in Minneapolis, MN. All these network issues are starting to get frusterating, I just hope that this can all get fixed in the near future.

well it seems like your area doesn't have strong 3g coverage yet but i'm sure it's going to roll out. well at least on edge you conserve baterry liffe

SF, CA it gets if-iy if I'm in doors, other wise it's quite reliable -might be the weather or my school has a sign that says fall out shelter (which eludes to the fact that there is a possible unintentional Faraday cage on my campus)

3G coverage in NYC is chopped as well. It was particularly bad this past weekend.

my issue has been the edge just stopping then sometimes working

i ahve done everything i can think of short of resetting ti back to factory default i dono what to do

same here in ny... edge and 3g back and forth... even had calls not go through for like 4 hours..

i believe it has to do with the lack of sufficient 3g towers in every city. i have the same problem but mainly on my block, but 5 blocks down where a friend lives, i get a strong 3g connection

The problem may not be with your network/service provider. I'm having the same issues here in Dubai, and have tried switching my SIM between phones in the same location (i.e. my desk) and the G1 has the worst reception and most inconsistent data connection of the 4 phones I have with me now.
