Warning: You may brick your phone and/or lose all your data. I'm not responsible for any problem it may cause you. If you're not sure you can do this, then don't.
I just could not wait anymore, so I found a thread over xda-developers on how to download the official update, put on your micro sd card and update your phone. 1) Download the update from google website: https://android.clients.google.com/u...-RC19+RC28.zip 2) Rename the file you just downloaded to update.zip 3) Copy the file update.zip to the root of your micro sd card. 4) Now turn off your phone and turn it back on while holding the home key. 5) When you see a triangle with a exclamation sign and a phone, slide open your keyboard and press ALT-L to display the menu and then ALT-S to start the update process. 6) Wait for the update to finish. If prompted, press Home + Back to restart your phone. 7) Wait a little bit more and done! Some pictures:

This did not work for me.
After the exclamation mark, I get the little box with the arrow to the phone for a couple of seconds and then it goes back to the excalamation mark about 2 seconds later. I also formatted the SD Card and redownloaded the file. I made sure to name it update.zip... |

Did the update, worked first time with the 1 GB card that the phone has been shipped with. All settings still here, also the installed applications. Phone still activated and unlocked, so people outside US who can't get the update via OTA can use this method.

Its working now. I followed the instructions exactly the first time that didn't work I named the file update.zip instead of "update". Now that its renamed just update it is working. I first hit alt-l and then atl-s so I can see the progress bar. Do we delete the file from sd card once we do the update.
Update: The device shows up when I connect to USB but I get an error when I click on E: drive after I connect with PC." PLease insert a disk into drive E" Last edited by yamilrx; 10-31-2008 at 05:13 PM. |
