anyway am i to assume this is the most up to date and best spl? and is there any reason i should upgrade from what appears to be hboot 1.33.2003 to this?

the only reason you would need this spl is for hero. it repartitions the internal memory to make room for hero. other than that, it's best to stick with hardspl.

Hey I just wanted to say there's now an easier way to upgrade your SPL now that we have Cyan's Recovery 1.4. All you need to do is download your radio.zip, spl.zip, rom.zip, and place them all into your sd card. Boot in recovery and choose apply any zip and flash in the order of radio, spl, then rom. No need to constantly take out your sd card and rename zip files to update.zip. I wrote a more organized guide about 2 weeks ago on a different forum so if you would like me to post it I would be glad to.
