just unlocked and activated my G1, purchased a code from http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com and it worked.
And I don't know how but, Google features are working (apparently they don't work once you unlock your G1) - I can access my calendar, gmail and the market. On an unlocked phone - woohoo !! |

e root on my G1 phone, this I know because I can use my phone as a tether and access the telnet app use various cmds, however i am running rc7 firmware and after the rollback i want to patch and update my G1, but no matter how many times i try to flash the image_recover.img it always fails saying "no such file or directory, i formatted the sd card to fat 32, i placed the image_recovery file and the jfv1.1(renamed to update.zip) in the root of my sd but when i switch the phone on in recovery mode and press ALT-s to apply the updates it never manages to unpack or read from my sd, always get an error saying cant read drive E or no such file , or directory, can anyone help? i can only do the first two cmds below , when i try the 3rd i get the error?? cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /data/local/recovery.img * cd /system * cat /sdcard/recovery.img > recovery.img * flash_image recovery recovery.img after the 2nd command ( cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /data/local/recovery.img= ) it aways says no such file or directory???? no mater what i try and i ha= ve double checked everything? any ideas? |

This is awesome, soon developers will start making there own builds since they can update manually. This is GREAT news if it falls under the right group of dev's. Now they can truly manipulate EVERYTHING

I'm thinking android's code is open but not the phone itself hence the need to unlocking it. Since, shebanx lives in a different country that doenst have tmobile and no access to a branded simcard, the phone cannot be used. I could be completely wrong though. I was a poli sci major not complex computer speak.

root access sounds fun...just waiting for the stupids touch it tho and kill their G1s by chmoding the wrong files or directories or editing the wrong files.

I confirmed this works on RC29. Your phone has to be on your local Wifi network for this to work.
