Just the other day we reported on rumors of the T-Mobile G1 coming to Wal-Mart and a lot of people were surprisingly mad about it although the device will be getting a lot more recognition. The rumors are true with the exception of the date that it w... Read more

Kind of makes me upset given that I have been a loyal customer for 4+ years with an average monthly bill of $200+ per month and yet t-mobile didn’t give me a discount for being a loyal customer and or ordering it early. I should call them up and request a credit for the amount of the difference.
Another thing also, I don’t consider the Wal-Mart employees to be any good at educating the customers on what the phone actually does and does not do. I see allot of confused customers walking out only to have the phone not meet their expectations because they were mislead or just plain lied to. I am happy for the fact that the G1 is getting exposure and increasing its popularity. The reason I say that is because that only means the market will be bigger and will be more of an incentive for a developer to develop and sell his apps to android users.

My tough luck. I ordered an upgrade on Oct 21 and it was placed on back order. I guess I should spend more time at Wal-Mart or start looking elsewhere. Lousy deal!

I'm willing to bet one of the main reasons they're taking so long to ship pre-orders is the fact that they have to ship stock of this phone out to Wal-Mart's all across the US. I can't say I'm not irritated by the fact that I ordered my phone 2 weeks ago and don't have it, while someone will be able to walk into Wal-Mart on Wednesday and not only get the phone I "pre-ordered", but get it CHEAPER than mine.

I think this is wal-mart adding a rebate to the phone, nothing T-Mobile or HTC have that much say in I think. It's not like Apple dropping the price of the iPhone. Sites like letstalk.com have been offering drastically cheaper cell phones than you could get from the carrier or manufacturer for a long time now.

As a two recent posters said:
#1 - There is always a price for early adoption - Because I am a gadget freak I always pay full price, though those who wait a month, or months could get a used version for 50% off, or get the gadget on sale. #2 - If Wal-Mart is doing something special (rebate or just simply taking a hit in the hopes of selling accessories or getting more people in for the new "it phone") - there isnt an awful lot T-Mobile or Google can do about it. |

This can only be good for T-Mobile and the G1. The more people who have the phone the more developers will want to spend time developing apps for a larger market and Wal-Mart can provide this larger market whether you agree or like Wal-Mart or not, it is still a large company with a huge customer base.
As the first poster said, most Wal-Mart employees don't know much of anything about their products. It is bad in electronics when buying HD-TVs or Gaming Systems (I've overheard a ton of incorrect info being passed from an employee to a customer) however you can say the same for some of the T-Mobile Retailers. There are posts here in the forums that are about how some employees at a T-Mobile store didn't know basic info about the G1, so you will get that everywhere. |

@justinwion; I wouldn't say all Wal-Mart employees don't know anything. I had a friend work in electronics who was a huge gadget, computer, gamer person. Knew a lot about everything he sold. But there are a lot (more then those who know) that don't know anything. At my local Wal-Mart we have mostly 60+ year old ladies that have enough trouble ringing something up, let alone informing us about it. So, although you and the people at your store know your products, that isn't always the case.
