So far the only timescale for the US is "later in 2009". There's definitely going to be a US version, though.

I'm wondering if there's been any announcement about Japan? I'm wondering if I should get the Magic which is coming here next month, or wait for this. Waiting indefinitely will be very painful.

Not sure about Japan specifically, but they're saying Asia later in the summer. I realise that probably doesn't help your decision all that much
