Default Re: T-Mobile UK rename HTC Hero as G1Touch; on sale mid-July from free

If looking at TMO US' track record, I would guess that the Hero/G1 Touch/some other ridiculous name (see: My Touch 3G---->WTF) would be released in America sometime near Christmas. Being that TMO US just announced officially the My Touch this week and it goes on sale sometime in July, it would be complete cannibalization to bring the Hero to their stable within a few weeks/months. If they did that there would be large stocks of My Touch 3Gs collecting dust throughout the nation.

Being that they are the only American phone company with Android, they are going to milk as many sales as they can out of each model. It would not supprise me even if they pocket this model stateside until some other comapny rolls out an Android set. Remember, TMO US is also supposed to have the Samsung i7500, later this year, Motorola appears to have a teenage 'droid texting machine ready, and Huawei keeps saying that they're going to give TMO it's sweet slate.

The question isn't when will TMO come over the pond with the Hero, but rather: Will TMO US actually have the Hero, as opposed to Verizon or ATT? Just because TMO in UK or Europe has a phone doesn't guarentee that the US variant will be next in line for it. Proof positive is the iPhone. TMO Germany has it, but ATT's got it locked down for the US market, apparently forever.

I hope that TMO will bring the Hero to the US. I would love to play with the HTC Sense, and cram the UI in all my Apple fanboy friends' faces. After all, this is what Android was meant for: An open-source, user-friendly, revolutionary (if you would) manner to forever change the mobile market worldwide. HTC Sense is the first delivery of the promise Google made so long ago (at least is seams like an eternity) for the future of cell phones and mobile devices. And this is, in all likelyhood, the opening of the floodgate for other companies (Samsung, MOTO, ACER???, etc...) to start manipulating Android and continue to up the ante for all of us. How you like them Apples?
