Well, I pre-ordered it.
I really love the much smaller size, and I can't remember when I've flipped the physical keyboard on my G1 out the last time. I've loved the G1, but face it, the hardware looks, um, shall we say, "dated"???
I figure this way. First, I won't GET the phone for three more weeks. Once I get the myTouch, according to California law AND T Mobile, I have 30 days to decide to keep it or return it.
That's about 7 weeks from now.
In 7 weeks, I expect to know if the boys at XDA have figured out a way to hack the myTouch and/or put Sense UI on the myTouch. Hardly impossible or even unlikely, considering the wonders they've already managed!
I'll ALSO be able to see what new phones are appearing, and which, if any, are coming to T Mobile. I really do NOT want to change carriers. I've tried the others, and frankly, hated them with a passion!
Anyways, using my wife's phone account, I get the myTouch for $200, and from what I've seen, I can sell my G1 on eBay for about $240-260, so I wont' even be out of pocket.
I also ( Blasphemy coming ... faint of heart, look away!!!) think I like the look and FEEL of the myTouch (stupid name....) more then the Hero. It's a VERY nice phone in your hands... it's much narrower then the iPhone, and the curves make it feel more comfortable, to ME, when I'm holding it (if you haven't held one or used one, only seen photos, you should really see it in person, it's MUCH smaller then the photos make it appear)
People are saying it doesn't ADD anything, it's even TWENTY DOLLARS MORE then the G1! Hey, it ADDS a much sleeker, thinner design. It ADDS more storage (about 4x as much) for apps as the G1 has, and it ADDS much better battery life, according to reports. My complaints about the G1 were it's large/unelegant, lousy battery life, and storage for apps is a JOKE (don't tell me about rooting... I'm rooted, but MOST users do NOT want to root their phones simply to gain space for apps). The mT addresses these issues.
Anyway.. just kind of surprised at the venom people seem to feel for this phone, but to each his/her own! Not trying to sell anyone. As I said, I plan to use the phone for three weeks, and see how I like it.
Just don't understand all the talk about how this phone doesn't ADD anything to the G1. That's simply not true, and a rediculous statement, even if YOU dont' happen to want/like the device.
