Default Re: T-Mobile employees clueless about the G1

The reasoning for T-Mobile's Decision is more simple than you think and I'm a bit shocked the couple people here that claim to be my co-workers didn't even know
The G1 with it being such an internet based phone was meant for the purpose of 3G being the Maps, E-Mail, Amazon Music, YouTube, GPS & Streetview all run allot faster with the services, Now When Apple released the Iphone 3G there was allot of complaints and pending suits over the fact of False advertising when they told everybody that it went faster and ignorant individuals with sue happy instincts went for there reperations. T-Mobile saw the possibility of this same scenario so they placed demo models in every store and only stock the store shelves in 3G markets, this prevents and customers being under misguided information that the phone will always run at 3G data speeeds when they have it available to play with in store and if outside of the 3G market they can test the internet speed and see if it is to their liking before they order.

So you ask, well cant they test it and at least have it there in store if they like it? Ahh that would be nice but did you know everytime a customer is transfered from one dept to another when calling 611 it cost's T-Mobile $5.00? In our new effort to "Fit the Customer" we know how likely those retail reps would be to hand those phones off to anyone who likes the look reguardless if the customer potentially should have the phone or not if the commision is good enough, so one more effort to prevent a high call volume "Magenta Flag" and long wait times it's best that the wrong people dont get to the phone.. belive me it happens A 60yr old lady with a basic no camera Nokia happens to like a BB Pearl and decides to upgrade and every day its a call about how awful the phone is later accusing the service when we find its all user error, It happens more than you would think.
So in effort to prevent the bad feedback from customers who think they are going to be getting all these "High Speed" data connections in regular Edge markets we just want them to be fully aware of the facts before we ship the phone, as you markets become 3G the G1's will be shipping to those stores.
