Couldn't hurt, but I try to avoid malware software on my PC I just try to be careful so it's not needed, and haven't had any issues in the last 4-5 years I've been computing unprotected.

I really like that Android notifies you of which parts of the OS will be accessed by each program, although I guess it might be possible for a security flaw to bypass this.

I've been using my PC without problems.. I don't download anything to crazy or have tendencies to get myself infected... lol... I guess in a way having a anti-virus on your phone is like wearing a condom... .. . you're protecting yourself from the possibility of getting something or getting pregnant... in this case getting a Trojan... Oh well better safe than sorry...

But I won't go to an off-site to download software... I'd rather have it in the market... They should make it free through the market with updates and then when developers can start charging for the software in January... the free updates will stop... then people can pay for it with a 1 year subscription for updates after that... at least this way people can get word of mouth out on whether it is worth it... and also people can become more familiarized with their software... giving them and edge over their competition... which I'm sure will start sprouting up, like weeds in a flower bed in the midst of spring...

For my husband and I, it really would depend on the price. I need to learn what safeguards and user-controllable settings are already built into the OS for both the data connection and wi-fi before I can say for certain. Our G1's should be arriving Monday.

Talking This sounds really AWESOME!

I'm willing to do anything, ANYTHING to improve my security, and this will clearly be improving the security of my future Android phone, because it says so in the Press Release.
Some naysayers may claim that it's useless to have an antivirus on a platform based on Linux which has never had a virus. To them I say this: since I have installed an antivirus on my Linux systems, I've never had one! Not ONE virus!
My only gripe with my current solution (ClamAV) is that it's free, and therefore clearly inferior to what SMobile will be providing.

My experience with security protection was on windows and I always had some malware and viruses even though i have a security protection tool. I haven't had a problem with malware or security on the many devices i have owned (ie)asus eee, palm treo 650, treo 680, or the g1. as an extra measure of security it would be nice to have one but i don't want to a software security suite taking up 60% of my resources. im no expert just my opinion.
