is anyone else getting extremely tired of all the pointless iphone comparisons? if you're at the point where you're rewiring iphone crap to work with the g1,.. you probably should have just gotten an iphone

I think you folks miss the implications. First, the person that did this doesn't have too much time on his hands. Someone that knows how to crimp cables can do this quick.

But more importantly, it shows that if someone makes a simple, professional looking adapter, the G1 will be compatible with many of the huge number of iPod accessories out there.

I like it.
Most Ipod stuff comes with fm radio so all you have to do is get a FM transmitter and send it through the air with the 3.5mm adapter.

the ipod/iphone cable and the G1 cable are both just USB cables with different connectors... so why is this a big deal?

and also - face it people, I love my G1 but the iphone is clearly better. there's no shame in that. I got a G1 because I wanted to be part of something new and open, not because I thought it would be better than the iphone right away.

At one point my bro-in-law had linked me an HTC mini USB-Audio jack to iPod dock adapter off of ebay.

Anybody trying this, remember you can;t use a regular "mini usb" adapter - The HTC headphone style Mini USB plugs are very different and that is what lets them transmit the audio data.

I have noticed a significant difference in sound quality between my Dash headset and G1 headset so you may also want to stay away fro the dash connector. It is probably an issue with the actual speaker/driver - but who knows, the connection hardware may also be inferior.
