Thank you this is great!!!
That's not real tether it would suck to always carrying around a usb I can brodcast wifi to up to 5 people at once wirelessy to itouchs phones laptops etc I guess that's good for dumb people that can't root their phone though
I don't agree that it sucks to always carry around a USB cable, in fact its a pretty good idea if you don't want to run out of battery power.
And I also disagree that people are dumb if they don't want to root their phone, I think you'll find that the vast majority of users of any platform (iphone, android etc) are not the type to their hack there phone, and having a viable tethering option available to the masses is a big plus in my opinion.
I have my phone rooted by the way, luckily I wasn't too dumb ;-)
Oh and the word on wiki is defined in communication terms as:
so it is tethering using a usb cable.a term sometimes used in North America to describe connecting to the Internet using a personal computer connected to a cell phone via a cable or Bluetooth DUN connection.
No worries. I hope people without root can find this useful.

That is great but can you charge your phone that way? Do you carry a laptop bag? It's not hard to slip a USB cable in your laptop bag. Calling people dumb isn't cool and neither is your snobbish attitude. Considering how poorly worded your post was, I don't think it is too clever for you to be calling anyone dumb.

How does Tmobile feel about tethering?
When the G1 was released they stated at the press conference that they would do nothing to block tethering. Just remember, there is a 5GB cap in place with TMo.

I know that in the UK we technically get the Mobile Broadband Plus package with a 3 gig monthly limit (I have had this confirmed by a Customer care rep via email). This package is usually sold with a USB dongle for use with a laptop, so there is no issue with using it for tethering as far as I am aware.
