Today, the Google mobile ads team has announced a new option that allows those of us who are AdWords advertisers to your desktop text and image ads on the T-Mobile G1, or any device that has a full HTML browser. These adds will have many of t... Read more |

you know we do have a opera client...port GreaseMonkey over to the g1 and we be set.
Have ads are annoying...I installed a app 2 weeks ago and it took me to a web page with ads all over it. Google needs to review the apps =P But I guess that's why it had 1 star *Cough*

Tried Opera, but went back to the default Browser in under an hour. For some reason, Opera and I are just not meant to be

If Greasemonkey is built to work with WebKit, I'd be surprised if no one is able to come up with an extension for the Browser app. That said, I've not seen a single app that functions as an extension of the default apps yet, so it might be some time before we see something like it

Ohhhhhh that's just friggen great. First they lie and say the phone is open and highly configurable and then they lock us out root and force adwords down our datapipes. I just may take the hit and switch to blackjack so I can maintain some control over the device.

What is so terrible about adwords showing up? If I'm searching for something specific, and an ad offering a solution to my search appears, what's the problem? It's not like it's spam or an annoying pop up ad. I use PPC all the time when searching. I usually get better results anyway.

AdWords takes up screen estate that I would rather use for content that I want to read. Anyway, this opens up a whole new can of worms for Google that Apple would never handle correctly:
Would Google allow adblocking extensions on Market? Especially if it conflicts with Adsense and Adwords? Alternatively, something else to consider -- I'm using a modified HOSTS file on my PC to route requests to a large number of ad servers to localhost (127.0.0.1) which means that the ads just don't load/ show up. Is there a way to do so on Android? If so, I'm guessing that this would require a modified RC30
