I think some of you are misinterpreting what the Mozilla team is saying. They have written the Mobile browser in a programming language that the Android SDK cannot compile yet. As of right now, the compiler can only compile code written Java. If someone writes a compiler to compile C/C++ code or whatever Mozilla team is programming in then they can put it on the Android platform.

i have to say i am not pleased with the default browser. i'd really like to see fennec or firefox developed for the G1. i don't care enough to go into specifics but it would just be nice to have an option. it would be like if i had no choice but to use safari on my macbook.

Am I the only one that thinks Google will have the browser polished well enough to the point where there's no need for another first generation browser (fennec) by the time it comes out?

If Mozilla doesn't want to program in Java, they will miss out on BlackBerries and many other phones in the market.

This makes me sad as well... bring us Firefox. Although Skyfire sounds interesting as well. My main issue with the built in browser is that the zooming is too much work and the overall experience is not as smooth as Safari as far as panning, scrolling, zooming, etc. I think the zooming can be improved, but not sure about the smoothness, as that seems to be a system-wide issue. Fingers crossed though!

Oh, another issue is that you have to press menu to do anything! Why no icons at the bottom? Once again this is a system wide annoyance for me.

Yes, Firefox is very important to me. I switched to T-Mobile from verizon under the impression that Andriod would be an open source distro. Open source to me reads: I can pick which bloody browser I wish to surf the net with! Jailbreak time...

Surfing on the net with the G1 is kind of a joke. It's almost an emergency case for me. What my friends don't realize is it's not even Chrome...it's a crippled Chrome at that. I use the trackball to hit links rather than my stubby finger. Zipping around with the Zoom window just isn't as smooth as it could be. But even at that...I'd rather have some sort of Mozilla browser to have to be familiar with. Sure you can use the hard Back button, but what about a forward button?! Copy/Paste would be nice too.

No offense to Mozilla -- I do all my designing on Firefox on my PC. But as far as the mobile world goes, a Webkit-based browser like that in Android of the iPhone is much better, anyway. Everything I've heard about Fennec says that it's slow and buggy. >_<

Boy, you really scooped this thread out of the grave and obscurity, and for no other reason that to say that you don't want to use the Mozilla web browser. It makes one wonder, what was the purpose of reviving a 7 month old thread just to say, "Pass!"

P.S. The Android browser is ANYTHING but fast. I'll keep clinging tightly to my Opera Mini.
